Edit PDF Online Without Uploading

PDFReshape is a free online PDF editor that runs in your browser. You open a PDF from your device, edit it on the page, and download the result. The file is processed in the browser and is never uploaded to our servers for editing.

That is what “edit PDF online no upload” means here: a normal web page, a local file, and no account. You do not send the document to PDFReshape so a server can change it. The editor is the site itself — not a separate upload portal, and not a tool that asks you to wait while a remote copy is processed.

What “no upload” means

Many “edit PDF online” tools work by sending the file to a remote service. You wait, then you download a processed copy. “No upload” is the other model. The editor runs where the file already is — in the browser tab on your computer.

In PDFReshape, “no upload” means:

The site still loads like any other website. The editor itself, fonts, and a PDF rendering worker are ordinary page resources. They are not your document. Optional Support is a Stripe checkout for a donation. That is a payment processed by Stripe, not a PDF upload.

Because the file never goes to our servers for editing, closing the tab does not leave a server-side copy of the PDF. If you want to keep your changes, download the file before you leave.

Why people search for this

People look for a way to edit a PDF online without uploading because a PDF is often something they would rather keep on their own device. It may be a contract, a form, a scan, or a draft they are still changing. They want browser tools without a first step that sends the file away.

Uploading can also add extra friction: creating an account, waiting in a queue, hitting a size limit, or wondering whether a copy of the file remains after the session. None of that is required for the kind of edits listed below. A browser-only editor avoids those steps. You open the page, work on a local file, and download.

This page does not quote traffic numbers, conversion rates, or survey results. The reason for the search is ordinary and practical: some documents are simpler to handle when they never leave the device.

What you can do in a browser-only editor

PDFReshape is a free online PDF editor. There are no accounts. In the browser you can:

When you are done, download the edited PDF to your device. The tools above are the ones that ship. Signing is a visual stamp you place on the page. It is not a cryptographic digital signature.

Optional Support is a Stripe donation if you choose to leave a tip. It is not a paid plan and is not required to use the editor. PDFReshape stays free either way.

This editor does not compress PDFs, convert them to Word or images, crop as a dedicated tool, apply cryptographic signatures, or install as an offline app. If you need those, PDFReshape is not the match.

How to edit a PDF in PDFReshape

  1. Open https://pdfreshape.com/ in your browser.
  2. Drop a PDF onto the page, or use Open PDF, and choose a file from your device.
  3. Work in the browser: pages, search, annotations, forms, text, images, and the other tools listed above.
  4. Download the result to your device.

There is no signup. You can close the tab when you are finished. Keep a downloaded copy of anything you want to retain, the same way you would with any local file. If you only needed to look something up, you can leave without downloading; nothing was sent to PDFReshape to keep.

If you are already on the site, the editor is the front page. Open a PDF there and work in the same tab.

How to merge and split PDFs without uploading them

You can combine PDFs, split a PDF into single pages, and pick out or reorder pages in PDFReshape. Everything runs in your browser tab. Your PDF files are never uploaded to our servers for editing. It's free and you don't need an account.

Merge PDFs

  1. Open https://pdfreshape.com/ and drop in the first PDF, or use Open PDF.
  2. In the Page toolbar, select Merge (Merge PDFs).
  3. Choose one or more PDFs from your device. Their pages are added after the pages of the open document.
  4. Check the order in the page thumbnails. Use â–˛ / â–Ľ and Apply Page Order if you need to move pages.
  5. Select Download to save the merged PDF to your device.

Split a PDF into single pages

  1. Open the PDF.
  2. In the Page toolbar, select Split All (Split all pages).
  3. Your browser downloads one file per page (page_1.pdf, page_2.pdf, …). Your browser may ask for permission to download several files.

Extract selected pages

  1. In the page thumbnails, select Select on each page you want to keep.
  2. Select Extract (Extract selected pages). The document now contains only those pages, in page order.
  3. Select Download.

Reorder, rotate, or delete pages

Short answers

Can I merge PDFs without uploading them? Yes. In PDFReshape, the PDFs you choose are combined in your browser and are never uploaded to our servers for editing. Then you download the merged file.

Can I split a PDF into separate files? Yes. Split All saves every page as its own PDF. If you want only some pages, use Select and Extract instead.

Is there a page or file limit? PDFReshape doesn't advertise one. Because processing happens on your device, very large files depend on your browser and device memory.

How to annotate a PDF without uploading it

PDFReshape lets you mark up a PDF directly in your browser. The file stays on your device, so it's never uploaded to our servers for editing. It's free and you don't need an account.

Steps

  1. Open https://pdfreshape.com/ and drop in a PDF, or use Open PDF.
  2. Pick a tool from the Annotate toolbar:
    • Highlight (H)
    • Rectangle (R), Ellipse, or Line
    • Draw (D) for freehand marks
    • Sticky note (N): type the note text, then Add
    • Add text (T): type the text, then Add
  3. Use the style strip to adjust options such as Color where they're offered.
  4. To add a picture, use Add image. To stamp a text watermark (for example "CONFIDENTIAL") diagonally on every page, use Add watermark and enter the text.
  5. Use Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Y) as needed.
  6. Select Download (Ctrl+S) to save the annotated PDF to your device.

Short answers

Can I highlight and comment on a PDF without uploading it? Yes. In PDFReshape, highlights, shapes, freehand drawing, sticky notes, and text are added in your browser. The PDF is never uploaded to our servers for editing.

Can I edit the existing text in a PDF? PDFReshape adds new text, images, and annotations on top of the page. It doesn't advertise editing the PDF's original text.

Can I add a watermark? Yes. Add watermark places your text diagonally across every page. Then download.

How to fill and sign a PDF without uploading it

You can fill in a fillable PDF form and add your drawn signature in PDFReshape. The file stays on your device, so it's never uploaded to our servers for editing. It's free and you don't need an account.

Fill a PDF form

  1. Open https://pdfreshape.com/ and drop in the PDF, or use Open PDF.
  2. In the Finish toolbar, select Fill forms. The tool is available when the PDF has fillable (AcroForm) fields.
  3. In the Fill Form Fields panel, type values or tick checkboxes, then select Apply.
  4. Select Download to save the filled PDF.

If the PDF has no fillable fields (for example, a scanned form), Fill forms is not available. You can still use Add text (T) from the Annotate toolbar to type on top of the page.

Add your signature (image stamp)

  1. Select Sign (Visual signature stamp) in the Finish toolbar.
  2. Draw your signature in the box with a mouse, trackpad, or touch. Select Clear to start over.
  3. Select Use Signature.
  4. Click to place it on the page, resize it, then Apply.
  5. Select Download.

What this signature is: a picture of your drawn signature placed on the page. It is not a cryptographic digital signature. It doesn't certify the document or prove who signed it, and PDFReshape doesn't send documents to others for signature. If the recipient needs a cryptographic or certified e-signature, use a dedicated e-signature service.

Short answers

Can I sign a PDF without uploading it? Yes. In PDFReshape you can add a visual signature as an image stamp in your browser, and the PDF is never uploaded to our servers for editing. It's not a cryptographic digital signature.

Is a PDFReshape signature legally binding? PDFReshape doesn't make that claim. The signature is a visual image stamp, not a cryptographic digital signature. Whether a drawn signature is enough depends on the recipient and the situation.

Can I fill a PDF form for free? Yes, if it has fillable AcroForm fields. It's free, with no account and no upload.

FAQ

Does PDFReshape upload my PDF?

No. Your PDF is processed in your browser and is never uploaded to our servers for editing. You open a file from your device, edit it in the tab, and download the result. PDFReshape does not receive your PDF to store it, queue it, or convert it in the cloud.

What actually leaves my device when I use PDFReshape?

Your PDF does not. The site loads like any website: the editor code, Google Fonts (DM Sans), and a PDF.js rendering worker from a CDN, served through Cloudflare. Anonymous Google Analytics 4 loads only if you accept the terms. If you choose to leave a tip, Optional Support is a Stripe checkout. None of these is a PDF upload.

Is there a copy of my file on a server after I close the tab?

No server-side copy is created by editing, because the file is never sent to our servers for editing. That also means PDFReshape cannot recover your work: download the edited PDF before you close the tab if you want to keep it.

Is PDFReshape free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there are no accounts. Optional Support is a Stripe donation if you want to leave a tip. It is not a paid plan and is not required to use the editor.

What can I do in the editor?

You can view and search a PDF, zoom, rotate pages, reorder or delete pages, merge and split, extract selected pages, annotate, sign with an image stamp, fill AcroForm forms, and add text, images, or a watermark. Undo and redo are available. When you are done, download the PDF to your device.

Is the "Sign" tool a digital signature?

No. Sign places a visual image stamp: you draw your signature, place it on the page, and resize it. It is not a cryptographic digital signature, it does not certify the document, and PDFReshape does not offer a request-signatures workflow. If you need a cryptographic or certified signature, use a dedicated e-signature service.

Can I fill in PDF forms?

Yes, if the PDF has fillable AcroForm fields. The Fill forms tool lists the fields in the document so you can type values or tick checkboxes, then download. If a PDF has no fillable fields (for example, a scanned form), Fill forms is not available. In that case you can still add text on top of the page.

Can PDFReshape convert a PDF to Word or compress a PDF?

No. PDFReshape does not compress PDFs, convert them to Word or images, crop as a dedicated tool, apply cryptographic signatures, or install as an offline app. If you need those, PDFReshape is not the match.

Does it work offline or as a desktop app?

No. PDFReshape is a website that you open in your browser. Editing happens in the tab without uploading your PDF, but PDFReshape does not offer an offline app or a desktop app.

Does PDFReshape use analytics?

Only after you agree. Anonymous Google Analytics 4 loads only after you accept the terms on the editor. If you reject, or leave without accepting, the analytics script is not loaded.

Where do I start?
